	Healthy chickens

Growing healthy chickens and turkeys is of paramount importance to Tegel.

New Zealand enjoys world class growing conditions for poultry and strict quarantine laws have kept our country free of some of the serious poultry diseases present overseas. This minimises the amount of medication needed to maintain excellent flock health.

Any medication used must be approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), which also maintains an extensive testing programme to enforce its strict regulations and procedures.

Tegel is proud of its systems to ensure compliance with these requirements and supply safe, healthy chicken and turkey for your enjoyment.

	Barn raised

Broiler chickens (poultry grown for meat consumption) are raised in large, modern, well equipped barns. They are free to move around, with access to food and water 24 hours a day and the barns are temperature controlled to ensure a comfortable and healthy environment.

Chickens and turkeys are Tegel's business, so it is in the best interests of our company to ensure chickens and turkeys are raised in good conditions.

Tegel guarantees its poultry is barn raised.

	No Added Hormones

It is a widespread myth that broiler poultry are given hormones to make them grow faster as New Zealand broiler chickens and turkeys have no added hormones.

The Government does not permit the use of added hormones in broiler chickens and turkeys, a law which has been in place for over 30 years.

Tegel can and does guarantee that there are no added hormones in our poultry.

	Not genetically modified

Tegel chicken and turkeys, like all broiler poultry grown in New Zealand, are not genetically modified.
