Meet Luella McLernon
Since joining Tegel in 2019 I have progressed from Process Worker to Team Coordinator to 2nd in charge of my department, to my current roll of Production Coordinator Afternoon Shift at Tegel New Plymouth.
In my current role, I support Team Leaders, monitor production and staffing, and drive continuous improvement. A typical day involves team check-ins, shift reviews and problem-solving. At the end of the day, I’m responsible for ensuring the shift runs efficiently while fostering a positive, safe and productive environment for the team.
What sets this role apart is the human side, managing different personalities, keeping morale high, and building relationships across departments. I find real satisfaction in seeing my team thrive and in helping develop future leaders.
I would describe Tegel as challenging, rewarding, and supportive, I value the company’s commitment to recognising potential and offering clear pathways for growth. My standout memory is being appointed Team Leader, a proud moment that affirmed my hard work and development. I’ve been given support, mentorship and guidance from many people at Tegel to help me realise my potential and operate outside of my comfort zone.
My advice? Embrace every opportunity, even the uncomfortable ones, always be willing to learn and consistently show up and follow through.
