As a market leader in our industry, we’re driven to stay ahead — delivering world‑class products our customers love. That takes exceptional people across every part of our business, and right now, we’re looking for one more.

We’re looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our Newmarket team and help keep our people experience running at its best.

About the Role

We’re looking for a payroll professional who thrives in a fast-paced FMCG environment, enjoys balancing competing priorities, and brings strong end-to-end payroll experience, sound knowledge of NZ payroll legislation, and excellent attention to detail.

Naturally curious and improvement-focused, you’ll be confident navigating complex payroll matters, identifying better ways of working, meeting deadlines, and taking ownership of your workflow.

Reporting to the Head of Remuneration & Reward, you’ll help ensure payroll is accurate, compliant, and delivered on time, while providing clear support to employees and stakeholders across the business.

Collaborative, detail-driven, and technically savvy, you’ll be ready to work hands-on in a busy payroll environment and be part of a supportive team that works hard and enjoys great banter.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Payroll experience in a similar role within a large, complex organisation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, a high level of accuracy, and a process‑driven mindset.
  • Solid understanding of NZ payroll legislation, leave entitlements, ACC, PAYE, and KiwiSaver.
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly across the Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel capability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build professional relationships at all levels.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and implement process enhancements.
  • Experience using Ready Workforce (Zambion) would be advantageous but not essential.

    What You’ll Be Doing

  • End‑to‑end weekly payroll processing operations for your primary location while supporting other locations.

  • Processing payroll accurately and in a timely manner for all standard and off cycle pay runs.
  • Manage employee lifecycle data including onboarding, offboarding, reporting, leave balances, and KiwiSaver.
  • Supporting ACC-related processes as part of Tegel’s Accredited Employer Programme.
  • Provide clear and researched explanations in simple language that enables the building of a better understanding by employees of relevant policy, process, procedure, and guidelines.
  • Support the Head of Remuneration & Reward with complex or escalated queries, and ad-hoc tasks as required.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities within the team to ensure enhanced service delivery.
  • Ensure strict compliance with employment legislation and company policies.

Why You’ll Love Working with Us

  • Medical and Life Insurance (cover extends to partner and children under 16)

  • Staff Sales and Market Days
  • Development and growth opportunities
  • On‑site carpark
  • Competitive salary
